Nutritional Neuroscience
What is Nutritional Neuroscience?
Nutritional neuroscience is the scientific discipline centred on the impact of nutrition and dietary components on brain health.
Considering that our brain is always “on”, from managing thoughts, movements, heartbeat, digestion, breathing and more – it works 24/7, even when we are asleep. This means that the constant supply of fuel to the brain, which comes from the foods we consume – have direct impact to the structure and function of our brain. 1
Nutrition mechanisms and their effects can affect almost every facet of the brain functioning throughout the life cycle. As many aspects of nutrition, from entire diets to specific nutrients, affect brain structure and function, therefore have profound implications for mental health, degenerative diseases and understanding the nature of healthy brain aging. 2
